About Faith, Church and Health
Since the beginning of time, various places of worship and meditation have been visited by individuals, families and groups of all sizes because during and after these experiences, the visitors “felt better, or “felt so much better”. Many know that they feel spiritually better afterward these services, which in different languages and theologies, almost always include worship and prayer.
Spiritual leaders are often asked, or expected, to pray for the sick, and there have often been reports of a positive result. Faith Based Institutions of all denominations, also have a history of ministering in many ways to the sick.
While the links between Faith, Church, and Health are not well understood, many people of color, across many cultures, know there is a strong connection.
Even many people of color who have no formal religious affiliation have a strong foundation of Faith. It has often come from recognizing the need for:
- inner strength to overcome the numerous barriers confronted, and
- strength from a greater source that many, but not all, know as God
