Genetic Counseling is a process through which individuals and family members who have a genetic (or hereditary) disorder, or are at risk for a genetic disorder, are advised by a genetic counselor on the following things:
- the nature of the genetic disorder in question
- the possible results of having the disorder
- how likely it is (what the probability is) of developing or transmitting the disorder, and
- what options are available to them for prevention and management.
