HIV

HIV is the short name for Human Immunodeficiency Virus, the virus that causes AIDS, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (See also AIDS and Immune Deficiency). HIV seriously interferes with the body’s immune system. After the body is infected with the virus, the body begins making antibodies to fight the virus. HIV is primarily transmitted through unprotected sexual activity and exchange or use of contaminated or dirty needles and syringes during intravenous drug use (IVDU).
