Viral Load

Viral Load – The amount of HIV (the virus that causes AIDS) present in the blood. From the start of infection, HIV reproduces continually and rapidly. Viral load may predict the rate of disease progression even before symptoms begin. An important treatment goal is to reduce viral load to the lowest level possible, for as long as possible. Many health professionals now use viral load plus CD4 count to decide when to start treatment and the best medication to use in treating HIV.
