Health Disparities
Health Disparities – Unfavorable or unequal differences in certain conditions among certain population groups such as:
  • incidence
  • prevalence
  • mortality (or death) rate
  • nature of care received

Note: Because of the importance of Health Disparities, provided below is the definition of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Health disparities are differences in the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden of diseases and other adverse health conditions that exist among specific population groups in the United States. Much additional information on health disparities is provided in reports that are summarized in our Racial and Ethnic Health Channel, and much data documenting racial and ethnic health disparities is provided in various tables in our Section on Health Trends by Health Power.
