B.Waine KongB. Waine Kong, PhD, JD is Executive Vice President of the Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC), based in Kingston, Jamaica West Indies. Prior to assumption of his current position, Dr. Kong served for 21 years as Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC). In that capacity, in addition to overseeing the planning and implementation of ABC’s goals, he maintained cooperative external relationships with the National Medical Association; National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health (NIH); U.S. Food and Drug Administration; American College of Cardiology, and American Heart Association.

Under his leadership of ABC, membership increased 600%, and gross income increased from $40,000 per year to $5million/year. Other prior positions held include:

  • Executive Director, The Urban Cardiology Research Center, Baltimore, MD;
  • Director of Research and Grants, Provident Hospital, Baltimore, MD; and
  • Principal Investigator of Churches as Hypertension Control Centers, an NIH grant; and
  • Assistant Professor, University of the District of Columbia
Dr. Kong is author/co-author of more than 50 publications including two books; has served as Chairman of the Howard County, MD Unit of the American Heart Association, And on the Executive Committee of the Maryland High Blood Pressure Coordinating Council and has made numerous speeches abroad including in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Zimbabwe, Moscow, Kenya, Egypt, Israel, and Jamaica, West Indies.
